Originally a poem by Sudhir Moghe, this song uses nature and light to evoke feelings of liberation and serenity. With the dark nets of clouds lifted and light streaming in, it expresses a sense of emotional renewal and boundless freedom. The composition beautifully celebrates themes of renewal and positivity, continuing to inspire with its uplifting message. The vivid imagery in the lyrics reflects universal phenomena, rejuvenation, and the beauty of nature, serving as symbols for emotional healing and new beginnings.
The last few weeks have been emotionally exhausting for me. My brother was unwell, and my family needed my support. Additionally, my client, who had just returned from London, was going through a tough time and required my assistance. I also felt overwhelmed knowing a special forces person I know was going on a mission. It felt like a roller coaster ride of emotional labor hence I stayed away from writing anything and focused on recovering more. What kept me going during this time was this song from my school days. This song beautifully captures the dawn's essence and the transformative power of light breaking through darkness.
I feel that this song is perfect for Diwali, as the festival symbolizes light, joy, and the connections we cherish with each other. For an Indian, Diwali is not just a festival; it's an enigma—a celebration of relationships and friendships. The themes of light and darkness are metaphorical presentation of good and bad. Lighting Diya's is the symbolic representation of spreading light.
Set in Raga "मिश्र भैरवी," where "मिश्र" means sweet and "भैरवी" means morning, the song is considered to be the queen of morning ragas because it has an extremely sweet melody to ears. It elevates the spirit, bringing cheerfulness and positivity. Asha Bhosale and Sudhir Fadke, legends in Marathi music, have truly done justice to the lyrics with their beautiful and cheerful voices. You are free to call me old school. 😅
There is so much happening in the world right now, and many of us are feeling stressed, hopeless, angry, and lost. I felt that I should share this song on the occasion of Diwali because, well, no matter how dark the darkness becomes, there is always light at the end. Whatever we might go through, we will find that light within ourselves, and also in the world.
After all, if you see darkness surrounding you, perhaps you are the light. I hope this Diwali, you can discover that light within you and spread it wherever you go!
Am I offering you hope? No! For hope, you can seek guidance from any religious person. I’m simply giving you a reminder. It’s a universal rule: whenever there is darkness, it will inevitably be shattered by light, sooner or later. If you look closely in history, every victory turned into defeat, and every defeat became a victory.
This Diwali, remember that the universe is all about maintaining balance. So, if you’re feeling darkness within or around you, know that light is on its way.
Happy Diwali, folks! 🪔
